Gombe State University Appoints New Deputy Vice-Chancellor (ACADEMIC)

The Governing Council of Gombe State University has approved the appointment of Professor Rasheed Abdulganiy as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). The decision was reached at the Council’s 60th meeting held on April 9, 2026, with the appointment taking effect from January 29, 2026.
Professor Abdulganiy is a distinguished academic and Professor of Islamic Studies, with research interests spanning Islamic Economics and Islamic Theology. His academic journey includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Islamic University, Madinah (2001), a Master’s degree from the University of Jos (2005), and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (2011).
With over two decades of experience in teaching, research, and university administration, Professor Abdulganiy has held several key positions within the university. These include Faculty Examination Officer (2010–2016), Head of Department (2016–2020), Director of Academic Planning (2020–2025), and currently Dean of Students’ Affairs since January 2025.
He has also contributed significantly to institutional governance, serving on various committees such as the Joint Council/Senate Committee on the Vice-Chancellor Search (2014), the Joint Senate-Council Committee on the Selection of a Vice-Chancellor (2019), and as Senate Representative to the Governing Council (2021–2024).
In addition, Professor Abdulganiy has served as an External Examiner to several reputable institutions, including the University of Ilorin, Federal University Kashere, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, University of Maiduguri, and the College of Education, Billiri. He has also benefited from numerous research and travel grants, enabling his participation in both national and international academic conferences and workshops.
The University management has congratulated Professor Abdulganiy on his appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the institution’s academic mandate.
